aaargh. Once it's partially installed it can be a pain. I would try uninstalling vmware-server (using the uninstall program if it's been installed) then re-installing. only problem is that it often doesn't uninstall everything.
I'll see if I wrote down what folder I had to delete to completely uninstall. kerry.
