Hi, thanks Chris but that didn't work. Will boot from other rescue CDs
so I downloaded the most recent version - it is at 1.2.2 now and the one
I had was 1.0something. It's not that my original version is faulty as
such, I have successfully used it on other machines (though not 100% of
the time - seems it struggles with certain hardware).
v1.2.2 has a boot menu with various graphics modes and the option to
edit that option in the same way I can with grub, which was what I was
looking for last night before I posted. This disk finished it's job
while I had breakfast, in fact I haven't quite finished my cup of tea . . .
Cheers,
Roger

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion ze4300 in my legitimate possession and am
making legal use of ophcrack to obtain the single user's password which
is normally a very easy process if it would boot.
Booting from the CD hangs early at the following:
ALI15X3: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
ide0: BM-DMA at 0x2000-0x2007, BIOS settings: hda :DMA, hdb :pio
ide1: BM-DMA at 0x2008-0x200f, BIOS settings: hdc :DMA, hdd :pio
Would anyone know if I can enter an option at the boot prompt to get the
process to continue?
Cheers,
Roger
