Hi Andrew,

I agree with you... luckly that's what I do use day to day.

I have to confess I've never used DMZ but I do get the idea. The rest I
use all the time, other than IPCop... but the point I will be making
about that is that there are a range of 'Firewall' and 'Firewall
application servers' that you can use.

I take it from your post that you think I've got enough packed in there
for a home networking talk.

I suspect that most of this will be old hat for most of the CLUG
memebers anyway.

I've already had one person tell me they'd like to know more about ddns
and I'm sure we'll find other topics that people want to 'chat' about.

Thanks for the feed back guys! :)

Cheers Don

Hi All,

Zane has asked me to give the talk at the next meeting on the 8th.

Home Networking: What would people like to see presented? 10 minutes
on TCP/IP address space - 192.168.0.0/16 ? Different home server
distros, what they include, how easy they are to set up and who on CLUG
is using what? How to set up the wan side for Telstra Clear or a
Telecom ADSL connection with a router? How to port forward (what is
port forwarding?) DMZ? What about ddns so people can set up their own
mail servers? Mail server tools - drop mail, sendmail, dovecot - simple
interfaces. What about WebMin? IPCop, ClarkConnect both come with
their own web GUI. Do you want some talk about the basic networking -
hardware - what you can do, what you can't do - 123 for dummies? How to
wire up your home? What about wifi? Would you like 10 minutes on how
to set up wifi, the do's and don'ts?

If anyone would like anything else or has comments please speak up.

Cheers Don

Don,

I'd suggest the KISS principle.

Describe what you have implemented or are using on a daily basis. Have a printout or presentation based upon that and then flesh it out based on audience responses.

Any questions can then accurately be answered by yourself based upon your working installation.

I would rather see one topic covered in-depth 45- 60 minutes plus questions and discussion rather than a shot-gun approach where people leave with a brain frizz....

These are my thoughts and they have no monetary value.

Andrew
