This seems to be what I have gleaned -

Wifi can be a problem, but not a major one Sometimes there can be problems with, for example, power saving, sleep mode on cover closure etc. Best to try it out first.

Better to pay the extra for a dual processor

eee pc's are good if you can cope with the small keyboard and only 4 Gig of storage and a tiny screen (see below)

Everybody has their preference and their horror stories (eg the HP that Don had trouble with, but Nick seems to be enjoying his (?) ) Someone else liked ASUS.

I went to Dick S this arvo and yes, they still have that cheap Acer running Linux, but single core processor only.

I had thought about buying their ASUS notebook at $999.00 but the screen, at 14" definitely looks smaller when compared side by side with a 15" Acer, so I might go into Riccarton to see if they still have that one at $1,099 with 99 cashback subject to any last minute comments on here about reliability etc.

The other comment was that (in my words) Vista is crap - but we all knew this already, didn't we?
Along with most of the rest of the geek and IT world.
