Also you might care to see:- http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenberg:The_Audio_Books_Project and linked from there:- http://audiobooksforfree.com/ Similar to librivox, but I suspect performances of somewhat better quality. They offer a - somewhat pricey - 20Gb player pre-loaded with a 1000 books. http://www.audiobooksforfree.com/xMP3/MP3_offer.asp Yes it's a rip-off which they can get away with because the end user is not usually the funder of the purchase.
I make use of the fairly large range of readings from ISIS Audio Books, and classic radio programs, on CD which are available form the Christchurch Public Library. Also you may care to know that DSE have Digitor DVD/CD players which will play MP3s, as well as ordinary DVDs as well as many other formats on a cd for only about $50. I saw one there only on Sunday. IIRC, it's just: Press turn on button; put MP3, or ordinary, CD in tray; press play button; listen. I'm not going into the ins and outs of ripping except that I believe that 'format conversion' is not illegal in NZ. -- Sincerely etc. Christopher Sawtell
