Dell operate a list dedicated to linux on dell hardware. The people responsible for making linux work on Dell are on the list and I've received some pretty excellent help from them when I needed it (E.g. they have an apt-get-able site for the bios updates). Their support is pretty focussed on Ubuntu, so if you specifically want a different flavour then this may not be a big factor in your decision.
