as noted in an earlier thread, I have just installed Ubuntu on a Dell inspiron 1525. Works great. and my daughter likes it because she was able to choose the colour - a nice deep red was her choice. A few dramas getting it working because it needed to download latest updates before it would connect to the internet (which was a challenge...) but as long as you install everything new, you should be fine.
