I tried a Logitech Quickcam Connect (046d:08af - also called Quickcam Cool in
some countries I think).

I have M8beta5 with the latest kernel (2.6.27-7) and the webcam seemed to be
detected automatically but I could not get any sense from it.

cat /dev/video0 gave output but camstream, cheese, kopete and skype do not
give anything usable.

Skype did show the camera as a video device but the test gave a greeny shaky
fuzzy output with no discernible picture.

Then I spent more money on a Logitech Quickcam E 3500 (046d:09a4).

I am very happy now. This webcam was plug and play with my setup. (Although it
does not seem to do video capture in cheese in Skype it works fine - I did
not have to do anything but plug it in and test it)

It uses the uvcvideomodule which is in kernel 2.6.27-7.
