I believe it's the chip, but it's entirely possible they are implemented in different ways on different cards...

No you can't, not with absolutely 0 stock...

We buy them at work relatively often and they always ship within a couple of days, so I'm not sure where they're getting them but they seem to be in NZ somewhere...

Thanks for the tip though, but almost 3x the price is a tad annoying.
Which models do you have hotswap experience with?

The 4-port SATA-II RAID PCI one (although we don't use the RAID function). However my colleague has used several other Silicon Image chipset cards and they all seem to work (they all seem to use the same driver, so not surprising)
