You can setuid root the script (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Setuid ). Of course there are potential security problems involved
with this solution, but I will let you weight those out. :)

Can anyone suggest where to do this so that I don't have to manually
sudo to change permissions etc first?
It's a pain in but butt as a manual process - I'd like to automate it.
