skype video problem

I have a problem in that the video in side will not work after i have 
viewed a wmv file even though 2 Xv ports are available. To fix the 
problem it is necessary to restart X.

Is there a way to monitor X or reset Xv or to find out what has blocked 
or not released its connection? top does not show any processes running 
which may require video and anyway it is video in which is affected, not 
video out. Xv uses port 62 with XShm support enabled.
