Greetings, I am assisting in a server migration project - the lead
technical guru is keen to have the likes of myself assisting and
reducing his significant workload (on other projects). I'm researching
correct migration of data and configuration files for various services
that will be transferred from current to new server so that I can be
clearer on which I could volunteer to look after. I'm thinking of
apache and mailman as 2 good ones to look at to start with. The current
server file structure is rsync'd to the new server each night so I have
access to the appropriate files/folders. I anticipate it being as
simple as a few copies via "cp -ap" or similar. And of course to be
checking I do end up with the appropriate permissions. In case this is
relevant, both are CentOS - current server is 4.7 (final), new is 5.2
(final).
/var/www/html/* is the most obvious data I need, but what other folders
and config files are needed to successfully migrate over apache
(assuming it's already installed)?
And mailman - theres plenty of data in /var/lib/mailman - but what else
should I need to look out for?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, I'm hopeful that these 2
examples give me enough clues to investigate some other migration
assistance.
Cheers,
Roger
