Perhaps Arduino is not what you want then, it does involve some sort of
script/code writing.
Theres a truckload of ardurino sample stuff on the web.
I was looking at replacing my garage alarm system with one (turns out
the existing one has no auto-shutoff)
So I wanted a couple of simple reed switch inputs for the doors, one for
a PIR, some outputs for a horn and a strobe, and some kind of way for it
to sms my phone or email me. Also to run off a battery.
An Arduino is quite capable of doing all that - I just haven't got the
time to make it happen yet.
