Assuming you have a working Linux system, a quick and easy way to make
a bootable USB stick is

$  wget 
http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/etch/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/boot.img.gz

$  zcat boot.img.gz > /dev/sda

Then adjust BIOS boot sequence appropriately, cross fingers, and boot.
