"user" with low inflection, as opposed to "User" with a high inflection at the beginning to denote the capital. But in all cases where strictly unambiguous communication is needed, I'd say it and spell it, including the slash marks, which will be introduced as "the forward slash, which is the one on the question-mark key" (because some Windows people think \ is a forward slash) -jim
