Hi all.

A friend whose Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 LTS installation I'm supporting has
suddenly lost the ability to update her system.

Both update-manager and Synaptic produce the same errors:

W: Failed to fetch
ftp://ftp.citylink.co.nz/ubuntu/dists/hardy/Release.gpg Could not
connect to ftp.citylink.co.nz:21 (202.7.6.9). - connect (111 Connection
refused)

W: Failed to fetch
ftp://ftp.citylink.co.nz/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/i18n/Translation-en_US.bz2
Could not connect to ftp.citylink.co.nz:21 (202.7.6.9). - connect (111
Connection refused)

(and so forth)

This seems to have started 31 December (at least, that's when I got the
first request for help).

I've found that CityLink's server can be flaky at times, but when I
tried the same update it proceeded without incident. She's tried
several more times with update-manager and then with Synaptic, to no
avail.

She's on some kind of basic broadband plan with Orcon.

I've thought of getting her to point to a different server, but that
wouldn't really be solving the problem. Any suggestions? TIA.
