Only machine I know of is at Dragon PC code 118107 white and 118108 black for $616.89 ex GST. I have an old 7¨ one and am very impressed, few things in the shipped Asus distro has flaws but there are better Linux OS´s than what they came up with. I had a problem when I left an 300 page OO document open and the machine running for 3 months, and it got very sick. I had backed up on a flash every couple of days and managed to email the few missing pages to myself and pressed Restore Thy Self and the little baby is back to its happy little white self. They are good little heaters in the middle of winter too, quiet and quick. Not a cent goes to big burning Billy 7Vista Xp which has got to be a good thing even if you don´t like it and give it away. Never had the battery go flat, I just can´t last that long. Boys at Dragon got more white ones than black ones, what does that tell you about global warning. Plug it into a big flat screen, pop in a mouse and keyboard switch on the wireless and you will never know that you have only got a little wee tiny net EnvElopE

So, I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket and I'm quite keen
on getting a netbook / small formfactor notebook.

The big box retailers seem to have Acer Aspire Ones and some HP thing
on the shelves. I've heard less than complimentary things said about
HP's laptops and I'd prefer to stay away from them. Would you care to
recommend anywhere I should consider buying from and any hardware I
should consider? My preferences are for something that works with
Linux out of the box, reasonable RAM and excellent battery life.

I'll most likely be removing any OS provided and replacing with some
flavour of Linux. An OS-free netbook seems to be hard to find but
would be preferred.

Commercial touting happily accepted, but might be better offlist.

Cheers,
Roy.
