This could (maybe) be your problem. The cable used for permanent wiring is single core as opposed to the multistranded "flex" used for patch cables. The single strands can easily break at the plug. The plugs are different also for solid or stranded and some suppliers (especially DSE shop assistants) do not have a clue about it. If you don't believe me try asking a reputable data cabling firm.
