Solved:

I had to fix line 389 of src/read_cache.c.  I changed :
       dprintf("libdvdnav:read_cache:pre_cache DVD read realloc
happened\n");
                to
       dprintf("libdvdnav:read_cache:pre_cache DVD read realloc
happened\n",0);

and my troubles went away...

Next problem was with libdvdcss-1.2.1. There is a bug such that you
have to manually set
export DVDCSS_METHOD=title (which is supposed to be the default
decryption method but isn't)

Anyway, it's a bit choppy (Phantom Menace) but it's playing now.

Thanks, Matt

COL31, building the tarball from scratch did. You may wish to include
the link the the Tarball as well.

These are the things I've found so far. I'll let you know if I find any
more gotchas, but it still looks good. Would you consider linking to
RPM's for different distros? I would be willing to post the
(Checkinstalled) RPM's for COL and probably find a home for them if
you're interested in making this available in the SxS...
