Sorry, Llama, I have to disagree here...  /etc/hosts is a key part of a Linux system.  
If your hostname and ip address don't match in there, you get weird results with some 
software.

True.  The only time you really even have to think is when you have to go between 
networks where you're DHCP and then you're static.
