Oh yes. I left out that the after reboot dmesg shows this: hdd: MAXTOR 6L080L4, ATA DISK drive hdd: 156355584 sectors (80054 MB) w/1819KiB Cache, CHS=155114/16/63
Why fdisk shows different parameters is beyond me. Disk /dev/hdd: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 24042 cylinders Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes Joel On Sun, Jul 14, 2002 at 04:16:19PM -0400, Joel Hammer wrote: > I have a fairly modern system, > > OS Release : 1.1.2 release 2.4.5-win4lin > Version : #3 Wed Jul 4 16:01:48 EDT 2001 > built with: gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314 (egcs-1.1.2 release > > I have been using two large maxtor drives, both 80 gigs. > I am trying to install a third 80 gig drive, drive hdd, which differs from > drive 2 (hdb) by only one letter in the model number. > > The bios auto detects the drives with no problem, and reports 255 heads > for my problem drive, hdd.
