Sorry, but OL 3.x Workstation (notice the change from "desktop" to "workstation") was targeted to developers. Someone has to develop the apps you run on the server (be it COL 3.x server or OpenUNIX 8 using LKP). It was never meant to be a desktop and, AFAIK, it was part of the plan from the start.
