There is no reason to be intimidated.  In the process of working with
slackware you will learn far more about linux than any of the
"mainstream" distros.  GUI configurators hold secrets, editing scripts
and config files shows you the real deal.  It is worth the effort.

Check out the slack newsgroup alt.os.linux.slackware.  Between the
faq posted every day and the group archive you will find answers to
most of your questions.  Post to them or here (if you want a less
hostile environment for other questions.
