What you didn't tell us is what you tried to do to make the HDD be recognized. On the other hand, I don't think your W2K would have liked to be on another system without a warning. With its marvelous PnP system it would've fucked up your config before you could say Linux.

Anyway, did you compare your BIOS settings with your friends? Did your friend put the HDD recognition on Auto? What was the error you got when booting on your friends PC?

To be honest, this is way off from the main subject we discuss here. You should try a windows hardware list. People here are more knowledgable if the hardware runs Linux.
