yes, that's how we did it with iso.
but there is no filesystem for rar, rpm, or nrg (nero burning rom) and

Linux has a rar extractor. You can use rpm2cpio for rpms. NRG seems
like a bastardized format meant for windoze weenies who can't handle
ISO. WTF is cdrwin?
This thing reminded me of an old DOS product called Stacker. It merely
mounted the stacker engine over a loopback device and created a logical
drive letter for the each stacker volume.
Yea i remember that. What a flaming pile or crap.
So if Stacker existed, there should be simliar effort for linux... :)
I hope not. Why do you spend most of your time on this list pining for
windoze garbage in linux? If you want that crap so badly, then use
windoze and be done with it.
i wonder whether it's possible to mount other formats: nrg and cue+bin
under linux. how about tar.gz, tar, rpm, rar and zip? something like
winrar 3.0 for Win$ is doing, but via a linux amount point.
You might be able to do something using loopback, much the same
way initrd works.
