I have nothing against RPM per se, but I have yet to find the distro
that has a large selection of RPMs for general purpose packages that
are kept up to date.  It's probably a good plea for the LFS, because
most RPMs won't work on more than one distro.

I would think that you could setup a fairly simple system for
replicating gentoo systems as well.  I haven't looked into it, but it
is possible to build binary packages with portage.
