This worked for me for the KDE apps and the change to /opt/OpenOffice.org/share/psprint/psprint.conf worked for my OpenOffice problem. Anyone got any ideas for Mozilla?
Just yesterday I won the printing war with Mozilla 1.21 on Gentoo/KDE 3.1.0. I could not print from Mozilla as a user. All KDE apps worked fine. Root worked fine. I read the CUPS docs and learned nothing. After reading the docs on the KDE printing subsystem, I found the answer. Just set the Mozilla print command to kprinter to utilize the KDE printing system. Works like a charm, gives you a nice gui menu system to change all the features of your printer. Anyway, in my case the beast has been tamed. Good luck, hope this helps!

Another addition to Tom's answer, I do the same, but add "-stdin" to the kprinter command using Netscape 7.01. T'werks like a champ.
