Ahhh...acpi has been known to be mostly broken in the vanilla 2.4.x kernels. From what i've read, in order to get useful acpi support, you either need to go to 2.5.x or apply the acpi patch from acpi.sf.net.

are you using the acpi that comes with 2.4.21, or the patch from acpi.sf.net?

hard to say at this point, since i can't get it to build yet with XFS. i'm taking a stab right now on my remaining ext3 box.
