If the error was just an error updating the info files, you can probably ignore it, and it may disappear after one or more emerges, but Tom's recommendation is a gould failsafe procedure. You can also try emerge -v .... to up the verbosity level. As noted above, gentoo ebuilds are damn good, but not always perfect. When installing linux software, there are an amazing number of interdependancies, so the problem ebuild might not have been tested with your particular combination of packages. If you can actually get an error message, track it down on the gentoo bugzilla, and then report the error if it's not already reported. The wait 2 days approach works as well. The gentoo developers are incredibly responsive in most cases.
