Sounds like you have icons in your 'autostart' for your desktop.
They don't get in there automatically... :-)
Look in ~/Desktop/Autostart (although it's been a long time since I've played with this stuff.)
There's nothing there except a file called .directory.
Where does kde store the settings for itself when it closes to allow reopening as it was when closed?
