Huh?  ADSL doesn't require a router.  You need a cable modem, which most
providers give you anyway.

A router would only be used if more than one computer is hooked up to the cable modem. ( hopefully with some kind of a firewall)

For some chipsets, not all.



3. Is Netgear and D-Link products Linux friendly?


Some are.
