SuSE 7.1 was good, 7.2 is better (smoother install, includes XFree86
4.0.3, KDE 2.1.2, Gnome 1.4). YaST2 in 7.1 was better that the earlier
versions, however in SuSE 7.2 YaST2 has a lot more capability.
Regarding your problem about starting X, have you used YaST1 --> System
Admin --> SuSEWM to set up your login? Select graphical login and
default display manager of KDM. With my 3 boxes this always results in a
the KDM login manager being shown, which makes it easy to select the user
and the windowmanager that you want to use.
