This was an 'undocumented feature' in earlier releases of Kmail. It got
constipated on pgp wrapped messages.

It isn't. Afaik, they have still not implemented multi-threading, which
would solve the horrible delays when sending and trying to read the next bit
of mail.
That said, the filters, indexing, and multiple accounts work very well
indeed. Better than some.
