Possibly:
1) More diverse (some topics just never make it to the HOW-TO's
2) More up-to-date
For example, you won't find a how-to that would cover 'how to upgrade your
KDE1.1.2 to KDE.2.x.x' that is quite as nice as the one on the SxS.
The SxS is a nice additional reference... but won't ever replace the
How-to's.
