Correct. So all that is needed is to bore and chamfer/polish the breech
chamber to fit the .308 brass. But in your grouping the 30-06 is a "long"
shell, the rest are short. Has to do with the length of the action or throw
of the bolt. The 06 is classed in the "magnum" length.
the basics are 30 carbine, 30-30, 303, 30-40, 308, 30-06, 300. The lengths
are carbine, normal(short), magnum(long). This does not take into account
belted vs. non-belted. Again, these are the standard shells and I made no
mention of varients of these and also what are called wildcats such as the
308-08 which is a 308 necked to an 8mm or the 300-07 which is a 300winchester
necked down to a 7mm.
