No that was not the reason. However I did a comparison of the other kernel 
sources I had and all except the Caldera installed kernel src had asm in 
/usr/src/linux/include. So I added a soft link and away she went.

Yes agreed it had NEVER happened to me ever before in the install, so it 
really threw me for a while. The brain stoped working for quite a few hrs.
