Now that I've gotten my router set up (simple little Netgear box) and
severed the umbilical cord to my WinME box, I've gotten more
interested in security. I've read quite a bit of the SxS stuff, but
I'm still clueless about how it all fits together.

Here's my setup: ATT @home cable --> router --> linux box (dhcp ip
address)
                                                                           --> WnME
box (dhcp ip address)

On linux (gentoo_rc6 2.4.x kernel), the only service I have running
for xinetd is the cups-lpd daemon; absolutely nothing else in the
xinetd config. I ran a free service port scan which tells me that I
have 0 ports listening, but 3 ports "filtered", whatever that means.

I run a browser and sylpheed most of the time, so someone must be
listening on some port(s). What is my exposure really?
