from a raw install of a distro kernel just do a 'make xconfig' and then save
to a file say 2.4.xcfg. This will write what has been setup to the file and
you can see what has been selected. However when you do do a make xconfig the
setup is available to be seen onscreen as is, you make choces and change what
has been selected previously anyway.
