Hello Keith,
I just have installed xine v0.9.1 on RedHat 7.1 during last weekend, and I
had the very same output from ./configure when trying to compile xine-ui.
The only thing I did (which led me to success) was "ldconfig", no path
setting, no fiddling with /etc/ld.so.conf (but I had added /usr/local/lib to
it a while ago as this path is not included in a standard RH install).
BTW, there is a variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH in my environment, but nothing xine
specific in it, it just points to /opt/adabas/lib.
I think you should remove the two lines mentioned above from /etc/ld.so.conf,
see if a line saying "usr/local/lib" is included, and do ldconfig again.
Hope this helps a bit.
