Another 5.x magnitude quake today, but this time near Hastings.
The line from there to here runs directly through Wellington region.
Be warned, be warned friends.

Thank you Steven, for increased public democratic facility here on CPIF.

NZ Prime Minister John Key visits Canterbury again today, and has
cancelled his overseas jaunt (thank goodness).

He will meet with the three Greater Christchurch (UDS) mayors this
afternoon: Kelvin Coe (Waimakariri District), Ron Keating (Selwyn
District) and Bob Parker (Christchurch). This group (core of the
Canterbury Mayoral Forum) will discuss appointment of a Canterbury Civil
Defence commissioner, Radio NZ says. ECan commissioner Donald Couch
holds the relevant portfolio currently, amongst other responsibilities.

The decision-makers need to look hard at the level of current and
specialist expertise available. and especially the needs of the most
directly effected communities (Christchurch East and Kaiapoi in particular).

The decision-makers need to reinstate Environment Canterbury's Civil
Defence and Emergency Management elected office-holder - who has the
relevant background but was dismissed without democratic process or
justifiable reason on 30th April - or be forever condemned.

N.B. Castle Rock, an iconic promontory on the ancient volcanic Port
Hills, has reportedly suffered major collapse and is attracting tourist
hazards - NewsTalkZB.

Stay safe,

Kind regards,

Rik Tindall
