Well, privacy is the biggest worry... google will have parsed your data to retrieve as much info as it can use. Apart from that, I don't think there's an oss calendaring app that works as well ( having had a few spontaneously destruct in the past )... I've been meaning to see if Mac OS's iCal is available / portable to linux as an alternative. Mail's a matter of taste I suppose, although it's easy enough to interface your own mail client to gmail to mitigate that. I find that accessing google apps data programmatically is rather clunky, but there are plenty of API's available to hide the worst of that. And at least you *can* do it!
