Functionally - its great.  Users can keep using their normal client via 
IMAP and plus it synchs to phones and PDAs relatively well.

There's a slight issue of professionality if you're a business, but you 
can host your domain with google and have a proper email address.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Google Apps for Education is free/free.

Downsides are, its overseas (not under NZ law) and you need a level of 
trust in the provider.   Google has more of that than hotmail or yahoo 
or any other webmail provider, but it is less than it used to be.
