Frankly I think they're a crock.

Wireless mice need batteries which makes them heavier to slide.
Keyboards should it in the optimal position and not really move much.

If cables are cluttering your desk, clean it up.

One of the biggest useless space users are the stands for your monitors.
I put in one of these
http://www.cdlnz.com/index.html?do=viewproduct&p=LCDSTAND&code=LCD-T9
and its made a huge difference.

You can also do
http://www.cdlnz.com/index.html?do=viewproduct&p=LCDSTAND&code=LCD-T8
if you want over and under, and there are single screen versions too.
Price is around $100ish

Or - to get rid of the cables from a normal keyboard, drill a hole down
through the desk and pin-clip the cable underneath over to the computer.
The keyboard should cover the hole normally. Cheap, fast, light
mouse, no batteries, no visible wires.
