Hi List and all the best wishes for this new year. I just migrated to Ubuntu 11.04 doing a fresh clean install and while restoring things from the previous backup I encountered the error in the subject line. It happened while trying to restore two large-ish files of over 500MB - backups of databases
The backup was done on an external USB disk with no problems from Fedora. I've copied larger files while on Fedora on this disk, of tens of GB some, to and from, and never had a problem. I also did a check for disk errors before the backup and the disk came out as clean 100%. Looking on the net apparently this has happened to others on 11.04 but the only solution I found was to put a USB hub between the disk and PC - not having one I don't know if it would work. My way of dealing with this was to compress the file on the external disk - worked ok - which brought the file to under 200MB and then copy the archive locally. Is there a way to deal with this? Something I can do at OS level to fix this and stop worrying about how big I have to make the files for backup?
