Hi Ant, how about puppy linux 5.2.8 as a live cd runs in ram no install needed and fairly easy to set up? Reboot and back to the win OS. Macpup 5.2.8 a puppy derivitave is also very cool.
Both are very user friendly.

As I mentioned last time (16 Aug 2011) I live near Blenheim, but I have
friends and rellies in CHC. This is a request on behalf of another one,
Peter.

He had his (small) business red-zoned some time ago, along with his (Win XP)
accounts computer and the Suse 9.1 machine that I set up for him to do emails
and web browsing. He was using Woosh for broadband.
He is not at all computer-literate, so he didn't have any Windows
preconceptions - the receptionist used the XP machine. He was making some
progress using the linux machine, and I was going to come down and update it
to a more recent version.
Then various quakes struck. He's not used either computer for a year -
couldn't get them out of the building for six months. He got a standard
laptop so he could use it at home with a new set of Woosh gear, but he's
never been able to get that going with Windows.
He is perfectly happy to use linux, but I don't think I can support him from
here, given the circumstances.
What he needs is someone (or some organisation) to install (say) Ubuntu or
Mint on the laptop and get him connected via the Woosh gear (which is a
router, so no ppp needed) so he can collect and send emails and use the web.
Dual-boot would be good because he does need to play (non-commercial) DVDs on
it and it would need to be proven that that can be done with linux.

This support is not necessarily expected to be free. And it may later involve
reconstructing more of a network/sorting out backups and the rest. But at the
moment, it's an installation and a bit of hand-holding. I don't think there
is any legacy stuff to worry about because he's not used the computers for a
long while.

Any volunteers, or suggestions?

cheers

ant
