This is more than possible if a writable CD has been used somewhere along the way. cat the .iso file into the head utility with the argument being the correct size of the file and then into the md5sum program. You can obtain the file sizes from one of the mirror sites. For example:- http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/xubuntu/12.04/release/ cat xubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso | \ head --bytes=713338880 | md5sum \ Assuming you are actually using xubuntu-12.04-esktop-i386.iso Clear as mud? -- Sincerely, Christopher Sawtell
