Somme commercial dvd players just don't work well with written (as
opposed to commercially generated) disks. Some work with +R and not
-R and vice versa.

Frankly I gave up on DVDs years ago, they are to be ripped and them
left on the shelf. Once ripped any of the media players in the house
can play them, and they don't get lost.
