You mean the VPN client from logmein.com? I think in general that logmein are "fine", lots of people stuck in the Windows world use it to cross security boundaries. It is a favourite tool of telephone support scammers, but there's been no indication that it is part of a technical exploit. There's a mention on the ArchWiki that this client is fully closed. But so is Minecraft itself (yes, one day they will open it; I believe that promise but I'm not holding my breath! It's too popular at the moment). So you will have to decide on a pragmatic basis -- can you get your friend to run a more open solution (ssh, OpenVPN, whatever) or do you want to get on his server more than you want to be Free? :-) -jim
