Dunno about "usually", I found duck's results not so overwhelming so
moved on, but keep it as choice. The list includes

https://ixquick.com/
https://startpage.com/

Likewise, they promise not to track anything. Run by a Dutch company, as
far as I can tell. They say ixquick results are from their own
conglomeration of engines (meta search engine), startpage uses google
but acts as a smoke screen. As such, startpage gives results similar to
google and it's a good last resort. From a brief period of testing I
found ixquick slightly better than duck.

Both allow personal preferences to be set either as URL parameter
(create, bookmark) or cookie.

https://swisscows.ch/

Closest to google in search result quality, sometimes better, as they
make an effort to get rid of shopping drivel when you're looking for
tech info (or something like that).

Any others to add?
