Hi everyone, I am seeing experience or recommendations on a reliable
modem/router for our in-house VoIP system (FreePBX / Asterisk to make it
list relevant) to replace one that is now showing some unreliability.
Service provider is 2talk on an ADSL line dedicated to VoIP.
The very best thing you could do would be to get onto UFB fibre and ditch
the DSL modems completely. That would give you an ethernet link straight
to your firewall and no modem required.
- note UFB comes with a huawei ONT which is not a router or modem, its a
glorified media converter but you can't not use it.
xDSL is dying, sooner you can leave it the better.
Also, because of Stepahead's status you might be able to get a "business
class UFB" which has better SLAs, and has a "high priority" traffic
channel. So of a 30 Mbit fibre, you'll have 2 or 2.5 Mbit of prioritised
traffic. That's enough for ~20 uncompressed calls.
I just bunged a TDM400P into my existing firewall, so I could still use
my old number / DECT kit, and the olds can ring me for free around the
world ( I still use IAX2 - because nobody else does sound quality is
brilliant ) using BT friends and family. I have a spare... (:
As for fibre... yeah, right... bung us some over. Uploading websites is
still best done overnight over ADSL, the best that we can get!
